Centennial tournament marks success for Hamiota hockey

The Hamiota Centennial Minor Hockey Tournament held January 13–15, 1984 drew teams from Decker Virden Minnedosa Rossburn Oak Lake Shoal Lake Minniota Neepawa Rapid City Birtle Elkhorn and four Hamiota squads. Opening ceremonies featured Mayor Don Mennie and Reeve Arthur Knight with trophies awarded across eight age-group divisions and certificates for all players.

Hamiota RM and Village Win Centennial Grants

Manitoba announces grants for centennial celebrations in 1984. The Rural Municipality of Hamiota receives 1426 and the Village of Hamiota 1456 to aid centennial events. A per capita grant of two dollars supports approved projects, with plaques presented by a provincial representative.

90th Birthday Celebrated by Kenton Family

Mrs. Gertie Curtis of Kenton marked her 90th birthday with a Sunday supper and a Friday come and go tea at Kenton Hall attended by eight children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Relatives from Red Deer Pilot Mound and Saskatchewan joined, with Leisure Club serving lunch and tea. Mrs Curtis has lived in the Kenton district 54 years and lists 43 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren among family.

Lions Telethon Returns to Manitoba and Western Ontario

The Lions Clubs of Manitoba and Western Ontario announce their annual telethon for February 4 and 5. Hamiota will not receive funds this year but previously benefited from infant resuscitator purchases. Local efforts include milk carton banks at the elementary school and a CKLQ Brandon hockey game with the Lions on Friday February 3.

The Hamiota General U C W met January 11 1984 in the choir room with worship on Brotherhood and meditation Hands. Reports show 1983 receipts 14161.88 expenses 12062.65 and 355 members. 3932 cards and visits to the sick and bereaved. Centennial Project is the Dugald Fashion Show with Eleanor as chair.
