In Hamiota the Centennial Library opened with 163 adults and 50 children registering in the first three days. About 800 books were loaned, part of 3,000 books allocated to the Parkland System branch network. Donor policy and bookplate acknowledgments described.

Final grain payments total 49 million across western Canada
Senator Hazen announced more than 400 million will enter the prairie economy within four weeks as the Canadian Wheat Board mails final surplus payments for 1982 83 crops. Base rate 48 cents per bushel for No 1 Canada Red Spring Wheat. Saskatchewan to receive 252 9 million, Alberta and B C 101 7 million, Manitoba 55 1 million. No final payment for feed barley.

The Hamiota School Band committee met January 12 with 12 attendees led by Mrs. Jan Dixon. They approved new banner and crest plans, invited former members for the Centennial Parade, listed performance dates, and set a fruit sale deadline of February 6 with a Brandon schools band workshop February 6 or 13.
