Hamiota Co-op reports 85000 patronage refund from FCL

Hamiota Co-op president Keith Dixon announces an 85000 patronage refund from Federated Cooperatives Limited. The payout marks the 1988 results and first member allocation since 1977, supporting community services and equity backlogged repayment. Livestock drought aid deadline extended to 1989

The Canada Manitoba Livestock Drought Assistance program extends the application deadline from December 15 1988 to January 31 1989. Agriculture Canada and Manitoba Agriculture announced the move on January 16. Forms are available from Manitoba Agriculture and rural municipalities. A review committee will address payment rate adjustments for municipalities alleging drought conditions are underrepresented. The program is administered by PFRA and Manitoba Agriculture with federal provincial funding.

Hamiota Donor's Choice Campaign Planned for Spring

The January 18 meeting approved a Donor's Choice canvass from March 15 to April 15 1989. Target organizations include Salvation Army Kidney Foundation Cancer Society Red Cross Arthritis Society Diabetes Association and Multiple Sclerosis Society. A February 17 gathering in the Community Room invites representatives and the public to learn about the program and participate. Receipts and donation tear-off sheets will be provided.

Rebekahs Begin New Year in Hamiota Lodge

Grace Rebekah Lodge No 35 in Hamiota started 1989 with a joint installation on October 24 and a January 16 ceremony. Officers welcomed members as Noble Grand Jean McBain assumed duties and plans included the Winnipeg Assembly tableau and Birch Lodge birthday party.

Kenton 4-H Dairy Club Holds January Meeting

The Kenton 4-H Dairy Club met January 9, 1989 at Darlene Hunter’s home with Amber Hunt as reporter. Teams were formed for the Kenton Kraftsmen and Miniota bonspiels, a battle drive was planned for January 16, and February 4 cow judging trip to Brandon was announced with the next meeting February 13.
