Isabella Post Office Passes to New Postmistress

After Mrs A Adams completes her term the Isabella Post Office ends an era. Since 1906 the Iverach family ran the post, from the original home office to the hardware store move and later Mrs Adams. Mrs Ray now takes over as postmistress in Winnipeg awaits further details.

The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 met January 5 1970 at Shoal Lake at 4 00 p m with trustees present including Fulton Waddell Rapley Ham es Léwycky Butcher Randell Hyndman Falloen Armitage Fouillard. Motions adopted January 6 1970 meeting minutes. Financial statements and superintendent report approved. Payment 10 1785 00 to Hoffman Construction Ltd for Hamioata Collegiate addition. Adjourned to January 29 1970 at 4 00 p m.

Snowmobile Rules Across Canadian Highways

Manitoba Highway Traffic Act defines snowmobiles as treaded or ski equipped vehicles designed for snow. Operation on a highway requires registration and a valid license. crossing a highway is allowed only under certain lamp and stopping conditions. Violators will be prosecuted.

McConnell 4-H Beef Club Covers Meeting Highlights

Twenty five members and several parents and friends attended the January McConnell 4-H Beef Club meeting. A brief business session set the public speaking contest dates. Members viewed Clayton Brown’s 4-H Congress slides and William Kelly’s England Scotland trip highlights.

U C W Meet at Cardale United Church

The General meeting of the UCW was held at Cardale United Church with fourteen members present. Devotional, organ music, skit on stewardship, and reading preceded business as Edith Kerr installed the new executive. Minutes and reports were read, tumblers discussed, and the meeting adjourned.

Ladies Legion Auxiliary Elects Officers at First 1970 Meeting

Fourteen members answered roll call for the 1970 auxiliary meeting with Mrs Grace Bullock presiding. The Hamiota Recreation Commission gathered January 15 at Hamiota Collegiate with reps from aid recipients present. Guest speaker Peter Cowan of Brandon explained commission goals and grants process, stressing must prove effort to earn support. Discussion covered a Summer Sports Director and project ideas like Teen Centre Tennis Court Drama rink and Children's Art Club.

Beulah council of sub district 504 met with 17 of 18 councillors present along with W. W. Fraser and Bill McQuaker. They approved a $750 budget split among six locals based on past expenses and discussed improving member communication. Next meeting set for February 9, 1970 in Isabella.
