United Church Women Meet in Hamiota for General Session
The United Church Women of Hamiota held their general meeting January 13 at 2 p.m. with Mrs. Johnston opening, Unit 2 leading worship, and themes on renewal. Reports showed a December bank balance of 461.80, 4179.85 raised by units, and Parkland Parish sending 5478.69 to Toronto to date.

Ladies Club Meet Chumah Ladies Club January gathering
The Chumah Ladies Club held its January meeting at Pearl Kidd's home with 16 members. Doris assisted Pearl in the worship service themed Thank God for Time. Bernice Lewis led as new president. Secretary Mariene A. reported 163 total attendance and 18.1 average. seven had perfect attendance. Community Friendship sent 18 cards and tributes. Mizpah Benediction closed the meeting with a lunch hosted by Peggy Mildred and Pearl.

In a lopsided game Miniota overwhelmed Hamiota as Ray Knight and Bob Hurst led a scoring spree. Ross Poole suffered a broken toe stopping a slap shot and will be out indefinitely. Hamiota split focus with a 10-6 win over Birtle in their other league clash. Final league game vs Oak River on Wednesday remains pivotal for first place.

United Church Women Meet Highlights and Activities
The UCW annual meeting on January 11 in the church parlors drew thirteen attendees. Reports showed a successful year with fundraisers including a Strawberry Social and Rummage Sale, a Smorgasbord, and a Christmas Party for local children. Nurse Edith Radley’s Angola slides were featured at an open November gathering, reconnecting former schoolmates at the social. Mrs. Mavis VanBuskirk received thanks for duplicating the financial report, and the meeting closed with prayer and lunch.

The Oakner Calf Club met at Howard McKinnon’s home on Tuesday January 11 1972 at 8 p m. Ron Knight and Dave McKinnon were chosen for the debate team to challenge a neighboring club. An upcoming Whist Drive and a paper night were planned. New area rep Tom Paron attended and led an impromptu cattle cutting and cooking demonstration. The next meeting is set for February 8 1972 at H D Lawson’s home.
