The annual At Home event hosted by the McConnell’s hall fire brigade drew a good crowd despite measles. A musical program, recitations, and a farce entertained attendees followed by lunch from Christ Church W.A. members and a dance. The event ended with a small surplus after expenses.
The Quatrely Official Board of the Methodist Church met in Humiota with fifteen members present. The session approved Church Union unanimously and ordered a church member vote by ballots to be counted, with results to be announced at the Circuit Congregational meeting Friday evening March 29.
The Oak River bonspiel drew large crowds over four days with lively play and social events. Winners include Grand Challenge T Wilson and A McAlpine. Merchants Blatchford Bradwardine. Consolation Hunter Bradwardine. Points F Bowman Burland Rapid City. Local farmer Fred Walicz died February 22 after a brief illness. The community mourns his loss. funeral arrangements were postponed to Sunday.
The weekly short course meeting drew a large crowd of farmers with lectures on feeds and feeding of dairy cattle by Mr Crow of the Agricultural College. A second talk covered common dairy diseases and treatments. A written examination will follow next Wednesday with three book prizes for top scores.
Lavinia hosts a town gathering with Rev. Finch sermon on missions and a large Sunday School turnout for Mr Stewart on temperance. Sixty nine sign the pledge as a debate on whether fire is more destructive than water unfolds with A W Lief and J W Stewart on the affirmative versus Wyatt BE W Alexander and W Meakin on the negative. A lunch, games, and prize stories cap the evening, with Mrs Kirk and Miss Bessie Stone contributing.
The bill extending Manitoba's Houndagy era passes the first reading in Parliament as boundaries would reach Hudson Bay and Manitoba gains financial equality with Saskatchewan and Alberta. Manitoba's 40-year fight for justice moves closer. Also a Sunday School Institute was held at Chugeb church with Rev. B. E. Turkington and Rev. B. W. Allison addressing graded lessons and district work, followed by a social with refreshments.
