Rev E Turkington spoke on Yukon its people resources and industries describing a trip to Alaska and the 1898 gold rush. The talk covered miner life northern towns and changes after law and church establishment with a musical program and refreshments to close.
Presbytery meeting in Minnedosa reports vote almost unanimous for Church Union with results submitted to the Clerk last week. If this reflects wider sentiment, Church Union appears a popular move nationwide.
Margaret Sillery Whyte aged 51 of Hamiota died last Sunday after a long illness from stomach cancer. Born near Staffs Ontario she wed Walter Whyte eight years ago and the funeral at Knox Church was large with ministers Rev J McKinney and Rev E Turkington delivering prayers and praise for her Christian life. The community extends sympathy to Mr Whyte and the family.
The Oak River bonspiel began Tuesday the 2nd with twenty home rinks and eleven visitor rinks. Competing teams include Stauniota Manter Chisholm Blatchford Dradwardice Brown Carnegie Forsyth Porest Kerr Stiniota Hidman Lyon Murdoch Crandell. The ice stands strong and matches this week promise close contests. The Oak River team at the Rivers spiel performed well, winning twelve of thirteen games and earning top aggregate with three wins and a grand total of points.
The Kues church youths held a class room meeting Monday and formed a Young People’s Guild. Officers elected include Rev. B Turkingtop as President, P McClure as Vice President, Jno Sutherland as Sec Treas, Kerr Fraser as Program Chair, with Miss A Mackay, G Houck, and M Fraser on the Program Committee. A Social Committee features Miss Fer ayth, Delaney, and Blanche Fer gugon. Meetings are set for Monday evenings in the close room, inviting all congregation youths and friends. A special program is planned for next Monday evening.
Church groups shift the S. School Institute banquet to Thursday Feb 2. The March church union vote passed overwhelmingly with about 100 for and none against. Edmetta residents Parker and McKinley plans, local moves, and health news fill town notes.
Hamiota plans its first spring fair on March 13 with prize lists and rules printed and circulating. Residents urged to prepare exhibits and join the event whether as exhibitors or attendees.
