Local and General News Snapshot from Winnipeg Trip
Local residents including Mrs Max McConnell and Jim drove to Winnipeg Sunday returning Tuesday with Dot. Mr and Mrs Wallace Fraser visited Winnipeg last week and attended the British Consul Competition. Several others, including Harvey Gray Clare Anderson Birnie Strachan and Ken Frise traveled to Winnipeg to watch the British Consul event. Doug Venables of Saskatoon visited home for the weekend. Sympathy extended to Mrs Bridge and family on Mervyn Bridges passing February 16. Congratulations to Jerry Venables and wife on the birth of a daughter February 15 at Winnipeg General Hospital. Patricia Reid and David Reid visited home from Brandon while guests included Leslie Slet Snow Lake Bob Weller and families. Several men curled in Winnipeg during the British Consul Competition.

Manitoba School Tax Reform Plan Tightens Levy Structure
The plan distinguishes farms and homes from revenue property with a 9 mill levy on farm and residential property and 33 mills on other real and personal property based on equalized assessments. It introduces a 65-35 cost split, allows local option to use actual assessments, and outlines potential additional local levies for special services in rural areas and in Winnipeg. The Public School Finance Board would administer the changes retroactively to January 1, 1967 where Single District Divisions opt in.
