Lt Gov Presents Silver Awards In Duke Of Edinburgh Program
On February 5 1986 Heather Miller Carmen Andrew and eleven other Manitobans received the silver Duke of Edinburgh award from Lt Gov Pearl McGonigal at Government House Winnipeg. The program blends Service Expeditions and Explorations Skills and Physical Fitness with guidance from experts. The Hamiota group 1st Hamiota Cadets led by Mrs Susan Allen pursue the awards voluntary noncompetitive and based on progress perseverance and achievement.

Government to provide free hopper cars for grain export
The federal government will supply hopper cars to the Canadian Wheat Board at no charge for all rail movements of prairie grain from Thunder Bay to eastern ports this winter. Transport Minister Don Mazankowski and Wheat Board Minister Charles Mayer say waiving the charges boosts net returns to grain producers and helps meet export commitments. Exports of grains and oilseeds contribute about $6 billion to Canada's economy.
