Local church services and events include Full Gospels in Orange Hall Hamiota with Minister P T Parkinson Sundays at 7 30 pm. World Women’s Day of Prayer at Christ Church February 16. Foresters At Home February 16 to support Boys Overseas Boxes Fund. Hamiota Y P A Monster Carnival and Dance March 9. Also notices of lost pouch, purchases, and memorial service for John Percy Moore.
The three Hamiota curling rings compete at the Winnipeg bonspiel with mixed results. Caldwell's rink suffered first loss Friday to Wise of Strathcona, 7 to 8, then beat Gordon Hudson in the T Eaton event to reach the fours, nearing an undefeated Watson rink. Rinks listed include Caldwell skip with Houck Wolstenholme Venables Fraser and others.
The Hamiota W I regular monthly meeting held at Orange Hall on February 6 featured the W I Creed, readings from overseas letters, and a program led by Mrs Kerr Fraser and Mrs Winter. A display used materials including dresses suits underwear socks mats quilts and blankets with a bias cutting demonstration. Mrs Winter spoke on waste wool and blankets and Gladys Fraser led a sewing display with pupils making bunnies. Tea wrapped up the social hour.
The Saskatchewan Department of Agriculture launches an aggressive sawfly control campaign in the southwest with field supervisors and entomologists guiding farmers and neighbours. Manitoba also pursues leafy spurge control under a similar plan, uniting farmers, officials, and scientists for practical pest management.
Birthdays announced for MR. F.T. Venables of Hamiota and MRS. Hugh McPhaden of Hamiota born London 1865 and Mitchell 1866 respectively. Grace Rebekah and Hamiota lodges hosted a social with solos by Mrs. G. H. Ruttan and a comedy whist stunt by lodge members.
The poem honors a man named Tommy beloved in his hometown for cheerful daily work and easy generosity. Children recall him warmly as their friend, never too busy to share a treat, and neighbors miss his merry smile as he rests from labor. The family asks blessings for those mourning the loss.
