Hamiota Curlers At Winnipeg Spiel

The three Hamiota curling rings compete at the Winnipeg bonspiel with mixed results. Caldwell's rink suffered first loss Friday to Wise of Strathcona, 7 to 8, then beat Gordon Hudson in the T Eaton event to reach the fours, nearing an undefeated Watson rink. Rinks listed include Caldwell skip with Houck Wolstenholme Venables Fraser and others.

Hamiota W I S Months Meeting Opens With Craft Display

The Hamiota W I regular monthly meeting held at Orange Hall on February 6 featured the W I Creed, readings from overseas letters, and a program led by Mrs Kerr Fraser and Mrs Winter. A display used materials including dresses suits underwear socks mats quilts and blankets with a bias cutting demonstration. Mrs Winter spoke on waste wool and blankets and Gladys Fraser led a sewing display with pupils making bunnies. Tea wrapped up the social hour.

Harvest Wheat Stem Sawfly Control Effort Noted

The Saskatchewan Department of Agriculture launches an aggressive sawfly control campaign in the southwest with field supervisors and entomologists guiding farmers and neighbours. Manitoba also pursues leafy spurge control under a similar plan, uniting farmers, officials, and scientists for practical pest management.
