Longtime Hamiota citizen J P Moore dies at 76

Mr J P Moore a noted Hamiota resident and former mayor died at his home on February 3 1945 after a long public career. He came to Hamiota in 1818 bought the local butcher business and served on village council for eight years including six as mayor. He led Christ Church activities and choir. Survived by wife Selina Hanna and four sons Harold Lawrence Roy Cecil. a son Percy died in 1943 and daughter Mrs Stewart died in 1923. Funeral in Christ Church Hamiota at 2 30 p m today with interment in Hamiota Cemetery.

Women’s Work Board reports clothing sent to Russian Relief

January meeting at Mrs J Allen’s home conducts routine business. Two bales of clothing totaling 77 pounds were dispatched for Russian Relief including quilts, sweaters, socks, pyjamas, blouses, panties, handkerchiefs and dresses. Red Cross events set for February 16 with a Whist Drive and dance. John Fowlie departed for Kamsack and other Saskatchewan points. Junior Red Cross bingo raised 77.20. Sgt Phillip Pollock visited his parents before returning to Fort William.

Mrs H Cooke Hosts Shower for Mrs Alva Brad

Mrs H Cooke entertained at a miscellaneous shower for Mrs Alva Brad, nee Lois Lints, with a Chrissie Lints solo. Contests and community singing preceded a kit bag gift presentation. Mr and Mrs H Stewart visited Winnipeg. Decker hockey beat Hamiota 7 6. H Lints returned from two months in Winnipeg hosted by Edson Boyds.

Decker Hockey Club Hosts Weekend Dance and Curling Highlights

A successful Friday dance, run by the Decker Hockey Club, raised spirits for the community. A turkey donated by Mrs. M Little was won by Mrs. Reg. The Decker rink competes in the Winnipeg bonspiel with skip R Anderson and teammates McTavish Finkbeiner and Cumberland.

Red Cross South Group hosts February 1 social

About thirty friends of the South Group of the local Red Cross gathered at Mr and Mrs Frank Preston home February 1 for a 500 card night. Harvey Skinner and Charlie Smith won with Harold Tremaine and Keith Skinner as consolation. A dainty lunch and social hour closed the pleasant evening. The South Quilting Group met.
