The Hamiota United Church held its annual meeting after a pot luck supper with 50 in attendance. Franklin Brooks was elected to chair the Executive Council, replacing Dr J E Hudson. Hospital By Law Referendum Set With March First Vote
The Hospital District schedules a March 1 referendum on borrowing 350000 with voting 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eligible voters must be resident ratepayers 18 or older owning property assessed at 400 or more. if assessment is 800 or more both spouses may vote. Seventy thousand dollars of the borrowing will be paid by municipal corporations. A majority of 60 percent district wide support is required for approval. In 1970 patients came from as far as Alberta Ontario and the U S A with most from the district. Patient days by area are listed for Blanshard Hamiota and surrounding RM and villages.

Advisory Committee Meet At Rivers Collegiate
The second meeting of S A C was held January 4 at 7 30 p m in Rivers Collegiate. New members included Mesdames English Dyck Coulson Wyness and Mrs Jackson along with Messrs I Penner M McConnell Greer and Mrs Hyndman. Presentations covered groupings levels and the semester system. Next meeting set for February 18 at 7 30 p m with the main topic on how Physical Education relates to Academics.

United Church Annual Meeting Reports 1969 Recap
The United Church held its annual meeting at the manse in Hamilton on Monday January 31 due to severe weekend weather. Howard McKinnon chaired with Lloyd Anderson as secretary. The session reported two members received, two baptisms, and $1259 raised, $150 less than 1969. UCW contributed $200 to the Board and $160 to M and S, with 187 classes held on 31 Sundays. Allan Cumming elected to Parish Council. Anderson re elected to Finance. White, Riddell, and Anderson re elected to Board of Stewards. No anniversary services until 1974. George Fraser reappointed Auditor.

Oak River WI marks 50th founding year in 1971
The Oak River WI held its regular meeting on February 4 in Memorial Hall, noting the 50th anniversary of the club. Officers for 1971 were installed, committees listed, and plans discussed for a mid year Golden Anniversary Tea in June. A Defensive Driving Course coach by WI totaled 33 enrollees and lunch plans for the Past Masters Convention February 17 were announced.

Women's Institute Meeting Sees Officer Installations
The W I met at Mrs N Lints with 12 members. Officers for 1971 were installed by Mrs Bob Brooks led by President Mrs Raymond Foxton and others. Funds paid clear debt on history books, 60 books remain to sell, charity donation approved, missing items sought, Deck er talk on Feb 18. Home valentines and whist concluded the gathering.

Family Night reinforces 4-H Beef Club bonds in Hamiota
On February 2 the Oakner 4-H Beef Club held a Family Night in the Hamiota Community Room with 35 in attendance including 13 members. Seven members gave speeches before five took part in a debate on Equal Rights for Women. Five year certificates were awarded to Dale McKinnon Sharon Gray Colin Lawson Brent McKinnon and Bill Cumming. Slides by Wendell Wight preceded a lunch hosted by leaders' wives.
