Chumah Ladies Club Holds Christmas Meeting at Myra Preston Home
The CHUMAH Ladies Club met December 7 at 2 30 pm at Myra Preston’s home with 16 members and one visitor. Janie Lewis led worship with the theme Silent Night Holy Night, and the group sang two carols. Bernice Lewis conducted the business portion and gifts were exchanged. A charity drive sent clothing to Korea, a quilt winner was Mrs Frank James, and a luncheon followed a word scramble contest.

Increased Demands For Federal Farm Credit Loans
Long term mortgage loans from the Farm Credit Corporation rose through 1972 with 4002 loans totaling $153,520,700 approved in the seven month period from April to October, a 49.8 percent rise from 3396 loans totaling $102,472,414 in 1971. Parliament amended the Farm Credit Act permitting higher lending, loosening age limits, raising borrowing capacity by $250 million, and restricting loans to Canadian citizens or those intending permanent residence in Canada.

Hamiota Huskies Open Season With 10-2 Win
HAMIOTA The Huskies opened with a 10-2 victory over Oak River as Bob Caldwell scored four goals and Don Sheridan added four assists. Ramsey Caldwell and Sn were named the three stars. The team announced season tickets at $5 for adults and $3 for students for a 10 game slate.

UCW Annual Meeting Records Change in Secretary
UCW met at Mrs. Charlie Knight home for the Annual meeting and Christmas. Eighteen men and six visitors attended. Mrs. Hud Anderson chaired the business meeting and the 1973 officers list includes Charlie Johnson as secretary replacing J Rankin. Nine meetings were held in 1972 with fifteen on average. A UCW Life Membership pin was presented to Mrs. John Rankin. Oakner Hospital Aid gave a cup and saucer. Christmas gifts exchanged. photos for the record book taken. A bountiful lunch ended a successful year.

Rolling River School Subleases Space To Manitoba Highways
The Rolling River School Division plans a three year sublease of its former office space to the Manitoba Department of Highways starting October 1, 1972. The agreement covers rental costs and required renovations by the division after a December 4 approval letter from the Department of Public Works. The board approved the deal at its December 7 meeting. Board members also heard reports on a Transportation Seminar in Winnipeg held December 5 and 6 and a custodians’ representatives meeting held on Monday.
