Miniota Hosts Kastrukoff on Unitary Division Progress
John Kastrukoff spoke at Miniota Collegiate Auditorium on December 5 about the Swan Valley Unitary School Division. He detailed transport challenges with 48 buses on feeder runs, a 45 mile longest route, and 95 percent under one hour per trip. The division serves 2,300 daily riders, employs 155 staff including 140 teachers, and plans a single Grade 12 site in Swan River with goals for a 300 student minimum and a shared school center for high and junior high. A referendum on December 15 sparked support with concerns on implementation. The meeting sent a resolution to the Birdtail River Division Board before December 8, urging the new eleven member trustees to oversee planning if approved. Russell Clark and Douglas Heise participated in discussions.
