The Hamiota Progressive Conservative Association held its annual meeting at the Ukrainian Hall in Shoal Lake on November 30 with strong attendance. Jas A Hannah of Oak River was reelected president for a fifth term. Mrs Frank Yonchycki of Shoal Lake became secretary.

A Event champions were Doreen Fraser and her rink Eula Woods Ella Mathison and Park McLaren, defeating Betty Oakden. B Event went to Marg Caldwel over Margaret Coxworth Isabella, and Cc Event to Doreen Lawlor over Marg Johnston Lenore.

Oak River United Church Cleared of Debt Anniversary Service
Oak River United Church marks its third anniversary of the new church with a mortgage burning ceremony on Sunday December 10 at 2 PM. The church opened December 13 1964 with Rev. S H Searle presiding and Mr Dick Sellin delivering the keys for the forty thousand dollar building. The congregation reports steady membership growth to about two hundred and thanks Oak River residents for labor and support that has led to completion of debt clearance.

O. R. Explorers Meet and Plan Christmas Projects
The O. R. Explorers held their regular after school meeting December 4 in the church basement. Eighteen members attended. They read minutes, set the next meeting, and sold candy at the W.L Tea. They plan selling Christmas cards and practiced Christmas songs after adjournment. Valerie Sabeski and Dian Shamray led the worship service and the study portion titled The Long Night to Tokyo was discussed.

Basketball Season Opens at H.C. with Staff Victory
In the season opener the Staff beat the Senior Girls 63 to 22 as Karen Anderson and Francie Finnie each scored twice for the girls while Mr. Robertson led staff scoring with 27 points. The Junior teams then posted wins as the Girls 35 to 6 and Boys 24 to 9. Next games see Miniota Seniors visiting Friday and Juniors heading to Fox Warren for a league tournament.

Treasurer reported last month’s balance 882.79 plus receipts 993.84 expenditures 419.30 leaving 574.52. Christmas novelties will be placed on patient trays. Statistical report noted 66 admissions 5 newborns 84 treated 710 hospital days 14 major operations 16 minor 9 hours 53 minutes operating time three bottles Red Cross blood used 5821 pounds laundry cost 465.688 tanks of oxygen used. Jean Smith earned diploma with 84 average. Rag sale brought 55.92. Dr Ed Hudson spoke on education drugs cancer tuberculosis urging continued Christmas seals Medicare and senior citizens home.
