Mortgage Burnt to Celebrate Oak River Church Milestone

Oak River United Church and Manse mortgage was burned marking the Centennial Year closure. The ceremony honored founders from 1884 with Rev Bowins as guiding figure. Special service December 10 featured Dr H Harland as guest speaker and Rev Bowins sermon.

Hospital Receives Full Accreditation After Christmas Party

Hamiota Hospital was awarded full accreditation following a survey by Dr. D. D. Campbell in October 1967. The event, held December 1 at Fraternal Hall, recognized ten and twenty year service awards for staff and board members. A banquet by Grace Rebekah Lodge, Expo 67 slides, and a cross Canada tour added to a festive conclusion.

The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 board of trustees met at Shoal Lake on Monday December 4 1967 at 1 30 p m to conduct regular business and discuss division matters.

Friends gathered in Chumah Hall to honor Sheila Pedlow on her forthcoming marriage. She was escorted to her chair amid Christmas decorations while a nurse and a farmer carried in gifts. The event featured music by Mary Corley and Lauree Duncan with Su Ann Duncan singing. a lunch followed.

Division Board Proposes New Ward Boundaries and Trustees

The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 board approves nine wards and eleven trustees subject to ministerial ratification. Ward allocations list districts by ward with nine wards and a varied number of trustees per ward including one and two trustee wards.

Lavinia Pool Elevator Association Holds Annual Meeting

The Lavinia Co op Elevator Association held its annual meeting on Tuesday November 28 with 15 members present. President Raymond Foxton reported eight board meetings, 119 grain cars shipped, 55 tons of fertilizer sold and 90 gallons of chemical sold. Net grain handle reached 228092 bushels with a 7899 32 surplus. Dividend cheques for 1963 64 crop will be paid by Manitoba Pool during the first half of December. Directors elected include Foxton president Johns vice chair Boyd secretary and McConnell Dixon Bridge Knight with alternates McConnell and Knight. Ladies provided lunch and delegates received an informative briefing.

Oak River Opens New Artificial Curling Ice Plant

The Oak River Curling Club will officially open their Artificial Curling Ice on Saturday, December 16, as their Centennial Project. Special speakers will be present and both men’s and women’s rinks from neighboring clubs invited to participate in friendly games in the afternoon and evening.

In honour of their 25th wedding anniversary Mr and Mrs Len German were feted with an no hostess dinner for 39 guests at the home of Mr and Mrs Reg McRae 130 11th St Brandon. Single District Plan Gains Support in Birdtail Referendum Meeting

A December 4 meeting in Birtle hosted by the Birdtail River Referendum Committee drew a large turnout. City officials and trustees outlined benefits of the Single District Division Plan, noting increased educational opportunities and tax changes. Over 3000 electors signed a petition for another referendum with the December 15 vote approaching.
