Changes to Canada Pension Plan take effect in 1987
The federal government approves CPP overhauls with a gradual rise in contributions from 1987 to 1991 and 1992 to 2011, plus higher disability and survivor benefits. Early retirement at 60 lowers monthly CPP by 0.5 percent per month, while delaying past 65 raises benefits by 0.5 percent per month. The Quebec Pension Plan is expected to follow suit. Mr. Mardon of The Investors Group comments on drawing retirement benefits.
