Dr George Johnson, a Manitoba physician with extensive public service in health and education, will be sworn in as the province’s 20th lieutenant governor on December 12 at 2 p.m. in the Legislative Building. The oath will be administered by Chief Justice Alfred M. Mannin.
The Hamiota Lions Club announces 1986 Grey Cup pool winners. First quarter Larry Houck Hamiota wins $50, second quarter Ken Usiner Oak River $50, third quarter Albert Wyburn Killarney $50, final Lois Buck Minnedosa $100. Thanks to all for supporting the club’s fundraising.
Health Canada official Rollie Blanchette urges CPP contributors and spouses to call 1-800-387-8600 for English or French booklets detailing 1986 changes that take effect January 1 1987. Booklets cover Retirement Pension Disability Survivors division of earnings Flexible retirement and financing.
The Hamiota Business Club approved extended pre Christmas hours with all village shops open every Monday in December The group will also stay open Friday evening December 19 until 10 pm to aid last minute shoppers and promote shopping at home for gifts including Uncle Joe.
The Hamiota Business Club sponsors an Afternoon of Animated Films at the Hamiota Community Centre. On Saturday December 13 at 2 00 p m Santa will visit children and offer a free 5 x 7 color photo print courtesy The Echo and Spectrum Color Labs Shoal Lake.
The Oak River Legion Ladies group held its December 4 meeting. Officers retained: Roberta Ramsey president Gladys Cowan secretary Winnie McCallum treasurer. Three members joined the committee of Community Collections. They discussed consolidating to a single local collection.
Hamiota students rehearse a children's musical The Owl and the Pussycat Went to Sea. Cast includes Alan Kirk Colleen Bell Rena Little and Mark Robinson with many Grade 7-12 students. Performances are Tuesday and Wednesday December 16 and 17.
