Past Grand Masters Night Held by Manitoba Masons

Grand Lodge members in Manitoba hosted a Past Grand Master’s Night in Hamiota on November 24 1970 under Grand Master John L Rankin. Beaver Lodge No 139 Winnipeg contributed three Master Mason candidates and seventeen members participated. The event included medal presentation to Fred W Chambers of Toronta and a social hour for attendees from Winnipeg and Hamiota.

Plaisted Leads Polar Snowmobile Quest To North Pole

Ralph Plaisted and a six man team completed the first motorized surface expedition to the geographic North Pole on snowmobiles. Departing Ward Hunt Island March 7 1968 they fought 62 below zero and 40 foot ridges to cover 830 miles total with 474 miles straight line reaching the pole on April 19 1968. A US Air Force weather aircraft confirmed the pole location the next day marking a threefold historic achievement. Plaisted plans a series of columns on snowmobiling.

Hamiota Hospital District Ladies Aid Met in Community Room

The Hamiota Hospital District No. 7A Ladies Aid met November 27 with eleven districts represented. Treasurer reports $1 484.54 balance. Blood usage and laundry totals noted. Blood clinic planned for December 9 at Shoal Lake. 1971 officers listed. 1970 buying items summarized. Meeting adjourned with benediction.

The University of Manitoba conferred degrees to 1182 graduates in late October. Hamiota area recipients include Ronald R. Ramsay Oak River Bachelor of Science Donald R. CKRC Redeyes Meet Our Girls in Hamiota Basketball Night

The Hamiota girls basketball team hosts CKRC Redeyes from Winnipeg in a benefit game Saturday December 5 at 4 00 p m The event features new uniforms by the student council and a mystery player likely to add intrigue to the fun matchup and charity event.

Couple Honoured in Hamiota Farewell

UCW Meet CARDALE Holds November Gathering

UCW of Cardale met in the church with 18 members. Worship was led by Mrs G Cowan and Mrs Roy Espey on Be Alive. President Mrs D Kerr opened the business meeting and a film on Breast Cancer was shown. New officers for 1971 were named by the nominating committee.

McConnell WI Plans Christmas Activities at Paterson Home

The McConnell Women's Institute met November 19 at Mrs. Eileen Paterson's home with seven members. They approved a $10 donation to the Children's Aid Fund, planned the 4-H Beef Club banquet for November 28, and organized a Christmas card party and community invitations. Lunch followed.

Ladies Club Annual Meeting Conducted at Mrs Jack Andersons

The Ladies Club met at the home of Mrs Jack Anderson for their annual gathering on November 25. Proceeds from Bake Safe amounted to 63.30 dollars. A Christmas gift fund was planned for patients at the Brandon Mental Diseases Hospital. Cards and boxes of goodies will be sent to elderly citizens. Officers for the coming year include President Mrs Hud Anderson and Treasurer Mrs Jack Anderson with several committee roles assigned.
