Oak River rink project moves forward with community planning
Oak River area residents met in the school auditorium on November 23 chaired by Jim Forsyth to approve rebuilding a social and sporting hub. The group aims to obtain a new host for the City of Brandon Pee Wee Tournament 1988 and seeks photos for insurance. Committees were formed and tenders for site cleanup closed November 24 with completion by December 15. Donations are welcomed to the Oak River Rink Building Fund.

The Ladies Auxiliary to Legion Branch No. 174 met November 24 1987 with 26 members. The group recognized two members for forty years of service Jean Pedlow and Mabel Anderson. A curling team with Eileen Edwards Ida McConnell Ella Mathison and Vicki McGhee placed third in Erickson. Plans for the May 1988 Red Shield Appeal and a December 6 Christmas party at the Hamiota Community Centre were announced.

Miniota Explorers Initiation Honors Nine New Members
On Wednesday November 25 at 7 00 p m nine Miniota Explorers were initiated. Lori Watters Elsie Dickenson welcomed guests at the door and introduced the nine new members: Teri Gardham Cherilynn Clark Alethea Mitchell Jennifer Lougheed Colleen Mitchell Lucinda Still Tricia Cole Lori Watters and Sarah Leland. Counsellor Elsie presented emblems pins and membership certificates then handed out Red Stars for joining an Explorer group and a nature hike. Third year girls Lori Sarah and Lucinda earned Blue Stars for office holding while also receiving a second Blue Star for brief histories of Arrow River Church and School Isabella Church. Lunch followed served by the Christian Education committee.

Westman Media Cooperative posted a third straight year of surplus and declared a thirteen percent patronage dividend for members at its Twelfth Annual General Meeting in Brandon held Saturday November 21. President Gordon Henderson said the year included a 7 town expansion and the Value Pack addition in Brandon. Postal ballot results announced five new directors John Burgess John White Lee Silliman Betty Moore and Dwight Stewart will join six existing board members. The executive will be set at the December 2 board meeting.

Oak River Lions donate for Hamiota Health Centre
The Oak River Lions Club donates 852,370 dollars for an Apollo telephone system to aid the Hamiota District Health Centre. The system activates via a wrist transmitter to notify four contacts with a pre recorded message. Five units will serve the district at ten dollars monthly each.
