Hamiota Red Sox Crown MSBL Champions in 10-1 Victory

The Hamiota Red Sox defeated the McAuley Blazers 10-1 to clinch the MSBL title, their first since 1979. Lou Gillis earned the playoff MVP with a 6-1 record as Randy Robertson Jeff Robertson Garry Kroeger and Kerry Lowe led a ten run scoring burst and solid defense.

Canada milestones mark Labour Day first and highway opening

This week recalls two historic Canadian events. On September 3 1894 Labour Day was celebrated for the first time in the nation. In 1962 the Trans- Canada Highway was officially opened linking coasts.

The project aims for substantial completion by mid October to November 1 1988 with twelve of fifteen units ready for painting and remaining suites drywalling soon The Lilac lounge area and the north west wall are being reworked for an expanded space with a natural gas fireplace A cedar lined hexagonal gazebo nears completion and will be open to EPH residents Landscape work including removal of dirt sodding and planting plus remaining mechanical and electrical tasks follow The general contractor and subtrades report cooperation and progress with Manitoba Housing funding guiding completion plans

Landmark disappears on Reynolds farm near Miniota

A vacant two story house and two barns on the Reynolds farm north of Miniota on highway 83 were leveled by a bulldozer last week. The wreckage was burned and buried before leveling the land, ending a landmark decades old tied to the Reynolds family lineage. The property was sold to Jack and Mary Reynolds, now living in Alberta, preserving the Reynolds name into a fourth generation.

Limits extended for upland birds in Manitoba season

Natural Resources Minister Jack Penner announced higher bag limits and a three week extension of the upland game bird season for sharp tailed grouse ruffed grouse spruce grouse Hungarian partridge and ptarmigan due to rising populations. Daily bag limits vary by species with possession limits up to three times the daily bag. ptarmigan set at ten daily and thirty possession. Season runs Sept 1 to Dec 17 in northern areas and Sept 16 to Nov 26 elsewhere with ptarmigan season Sept 1 to Feb 11 1989 in areas 1 to 11. Hunters must wear blaze orange during deer season and limits are from before sunrise to after sunset.
