Local Bantam A's Capture Provincial Title

Hamiota Bantam A's coached by Murray Mathison and Harold Irwin won the Manitoba Provincial Title on Sunday to earn a Manitoba representative spot at the Western Canada Championship set for September 5-6. The team beat Cardale 3-0 in the playoff, added two Rivers players Bob Young and Brent Montague, swept Souris in three games, and defeated Snowflake and Dauphin in later rounds to reach the provincial final against Riverview. Jeff Sheardown pitched strong, Jeff, Dennis, Bob and Brent led at bat, and Hamiota advanced to the Western Canada Championship.

Reunion of 12th Manitoba Dragoons in Winnipeg

In Winnipeg last week ex Dragoon Lorne T Montgomery of Hamiota joined former members from Hamilton and Prince George for a reunion. Colonel Jim Roberts, ambassador to Switzerland, received a standing ovation as a memo of the occasion was presented. The event featured a banquet dance wine and cheese tour of a new auditorium opened by The Queen and a night smoker. A Paddle Queen boat trip on the Red River followed next day. The 8th Armored regiment served in France and Germany in the first great conflict.

Manitoba secretaries attend Quebec meeting

Wm. T. Andrew represented the Manitoba Municipal Secretary-Treasurers Association at the Manoix Richelieu event in Pointe-A-Pic ninety miles east of Quebec City for the annual meeting of the Corporation Des Secretaires Municipaux Et Scolaires Du Quebec Inc. August 19 to 22. He returned home Sunday, August 23.

Decker Centennial Celebrations Highlight Small Town Sports

A two day Decker centennial event drew 700 visitors to school grounds with boat racing horse shoes and fastball. Winners included Isabella Pope and teams Crandall Hamiota and Hargvey Lints Lloyd Stewart. A dance in Memorial Hall closed the day with Cooley Orchestra.

The Cochrane and Beamish 22nd reunion gathered over sixty people at Birtle Park on July 19. Attendees enjoyed visiting and a smorgasbord supper before President Lloyd Kirk led the meeting. The next reunion is planned for 1971 at Birtle. Attendees came from Niagara Falls Fort Frances Calgary Kerrobert Regina Marchwell Langenburg and other towns.

Red Sox Bow To Dauphin in Season Finale

The Red Sox lost to Dauphin in eight innings as the Dauphin club swept a best-of-five league final series. Dauphin took two wins at Hamiota and two more at Dauphin to end the season with a 3 2 series win and claim the league title.
