Hamiota Bantams Capture Provincial Bantam AB Title

Hamiota defeated Portage la Prairie 10 5 to win the provincial Bantam AB baseball title in straight games. Bryan Smith earned the win with Wayne McConnell, Ellis Woods, and Glen Adams leading the offense as Portage was limited to four hits. McConnell struck out 7 with a 7 0 record, while Smith and Morton posted strong seasons for the champions.

Manitoba Flying Farmers hold successful Carman fly in

Manitoba Flying Partners Association held a social and film night at Robert Langtry's home on August 1 with 35 Flying Farmers. A large Sunday meeting at Carman Park drew about 170 attendees from Morris Lowe Farm Pilot Mound St. Vital Miami Roland Hami wood Carman and nearby areas. Delegates were chosen for the Saskatchewan Flying Farmer Convention in October and the Manitoba Convention moves Brandon next spring. The next fly-in is planned at Roy Stevenson’s Morris home in mid September.

Three couples honored at Scotia Church social

A social gathering at Scotia Church on Wednesday August 3 honored Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Routledge as they leave the community, and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Routledge who were recently married. Gifts included a coffee table lamp planter for the Smiths and a lamp planter hostess chair for the Routlidges, plus a wall mirror kitchen stool and plaque set for the Ivans. A contest and social visit led to a luncheon closing the evening.

Province To Pay About $350,000 in Flood Aid

Manitoba government to buy out about $350,000 in flood damage aid for 41 municipalities and private owners. The plan follows the 1959 Seine River one, covering building and road repair costs, flood fighting, and wage subsidies with payments issued after appraisals and municipality administration.

Moore Family Receives Gifts Before Moving to New Trailer

Mr and Mrs Ed Moore and their family were quietly presented with useful gifts from the community before leaving Hamiota for a new trailer home. The items included a kitchen step stool a step-on garbage can an electric fan a chenille bedspread plus smaller kitchen goods and a monetary gift used to buy more utensils. Best wishes accompanied them on their new venture.

Eastgaard and Miss Agnes Yvonne Good were wed at Knox Presbyterian Church Calgary on July 30 with Rev M Esler officiating. Guests from across Canada attended the ceremony including Lenore Virden Hamiota Manitoba Macklin Saskatchewan Haney Vancouver and Edmonton. The couple plan a USA trip then reside at 63 Langdon Drive Calgary.

Manitoba Road Tenders Reach 1.5 Million in July

Manitoba's summer highways program reports tenders totaling 1.5 million dollars for July. Ten bridges were let including a 166 foot Pembina river crossing on the Pilot Mound Neelin road and two bridges on the Grand Rapids road. Cow-Bridge Ltd submitted the low bid for those two bridges at 49 283 dollars. John Thompson noted the range from 49 283 to 98 412 dollars.Completion will extend PTH No 6 from Gypsumville to Grand Rapids near the Lake Winnipeg hydro plant on the Saskatchewan river. Seven grading contracts were opened, the costliest being a 12 mile PTH 11A stretch from McArthur Falls to St George at 274 775 dollars by A Lehreyer and Waters Construction Co Ltd. Six bids ranged to 404 700 dollars. Gravelling work on PTH 23 Morris to Myrtle bid 358 097 dollars by Benjamin Bros. for the bituminous mat surface on PTH 2 Rathwell to Holland saw the largest July contract at 396 839 dollars with other bids to 396 839 dollars, Thompson said.
