First Hearing August 29 For Packers Strike Study
Hon John B. Carril announced that August 29 at 10 am will host the first hearing of Brandon Packers Strike Commission. Justice G BE Tritecler of the Manitoba Court of Appeal was named to a one person commission on June 30. The commission has received notes of intent to present evidence from 14 organizations or individuals and has asked Brandon Packers Limited and the union to provide pertinent information to aid preparation.

Annual Summer Camp of Children's Aid Society in Manitoba
The Annual Summer Camp of Children's Aid Societies of Western Manitoba runs for ten days at the Bap t Cimirech Camp site by Cear Lake with seventy boys and girls aged 7 to 14 from Brandon and nearby towns. Camp is directed by Mrs Wade with staff from Brandon Shilo and Wasagam. Activities include crafts hikes stunt nights camp fires and a day at Wasagam and Lake Audy. Transportation home is by chartered bus donated locally. funding comes from community organizations churches and individuals. Public invited to visit during the ten days.

Twelve year old Rhonda Silver, with a choirboy voice, will sing on Billy OConnor's new radio show on the Trans-Canada network this July and August. She was discovered during auditions and signed to perform hymns and up tempo numbers five days a week, joining a cast including Sylvia Murphy and Path Lewis. Rhonda’s first radio singing marks her as a musical prodigy, quickly learning piano and now studying violin while performing locally.

Manitoba Ducks Regulations Tighten Ground on Redheads and Canvasbacks
New Manitoba duck rules from the Canadian Wildlife Service set a seven duck daily limit with 21 in possession and cap Canvasbacks or redheads at one per day. Previously four were allowed. Season dates vary by region, all starting at moon, CST. Geese limits are five daily and ten in possession, Wilson’s snipe eight and 16 respectively. An amendment restricts damage permits to Manitoba residents who own or lease land.

Red Cross Swim Tests Held At Shoal Lake
Red Cross swimming courses held at Shoal Lake with a wind up picnic supper. About 50 Hamista district students participated this year. Senior Group include David Coupland Elton Mansell Velma Fenty and Ken Smith who passed tests. David Castie earned Bronze Medallion Merit Bar in Life Saving. Two New Dams to Secure Water Supply for Towns
