Harding Centenary Reunion Books Warm Rural Roots
More than 1200 former Rowan and Harding School pupils, residents, and friends gathered July 12 1981 to celebrate Harding's centennial. The event featured ribbons and pins, a dedication service, banner procession, speeches by local dignitaries, a memorial cairn reveal, a birthday cake, and a smorgasbord. Survivors and descendants recalled early settlers, with awards for longest service and oldest participants. The crowd enjoyed picnics, games, and a joyous farewell, promising to meet again soon.

Oak River hosted the Westman Seniors annual picnic on July 8 at the arena and surrounding area drawing 450 attendees. Volunteers issued Manitoba pins and name tags. door prizes went to Mary Haverstock, Eleanor Thompson, Brenda Pope, and Ernie Sunley. Winners in horseshoes were Bill Mayert and David Jones. carpetbowls winners were Hannah Klade Kathleen Jones John Pidhorny and Tom Elliott. Rivers Club led bingo. Park Reunion Honors James and Elizabeth Park at Hamiota
Park clan gathered July 19 at the Hamiota fair grounds to honor James and Elizabeth Park. The couple traced roots from Scotland to Canada through homesteading in 1880 and a large family, with George Park the only survivor attending. Relatives from multiple provinces and the U S gathered for meals, a history book release, photo displays, and a slow pitch game, celebrating Park ancestry and roots.

Terry Fox Run Declared Terry Fox Day in Canada
Across Canada people will run jog and walk for Terry Fox and his cancer cure dream on Sunday September 13 in events organized under the Canadian Cancer Society and partners. Terry Fox, a 22 year old amputee, lost his right leg to cancer in 1977 and aims to push his limits for the cancer cause as part of a nationwide effort.
