Anniversary Celebrated for 50th Wedding of Mr and Mrs Little

A tea and supper marked the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Little at Chumah Hall Hamiota. Lloyd and Hector Little hosted guests, with 244 signing the guest book and out of town visitors from Winnipeg, Brandon, Greenridge and Birtle. Decker U.C.W. ran the lunch and the Lloyd Little farm hosted supper for 45. The couple wed fifty years ago in Rothesay Manitoba.

Oak River School Reunion Draws 1000 Attendees

Oak River held a 50 year reunion for the stucco school from 1929 to 1979 attracting over 1,000 registrants from across Canada and the U.S. The two day event featured a rink gathering, glee club performances, Scottish dancing, a pork barbecue, and a dine and dance as former students and teachers recalled memories and celebrated the community’s legacy.

Bride-Elect Honored at HAMIOTA Community Shower

A June 30 event in the Pentecostal Church lower auditorium honored Ruth Beck daughter of Rev and Mrs L Beck. Ruth will wed John Hagan of Red Lake Ontario at 2 p.m. August 11 in the Pentecostal Church. The gathering featured corsages, gifts, and a guest book signed by over sixty donors.

Fraser receives seventy year bar for fifty year medal

J Moss Fraser is presented with a seventy year bar at the Masonic Memorial Temple in Winnipeg on June 15 1979. Five sons and several relatives attend along with Mrs Rose Fraser and Grand Lodge official John L Rankin. Fraser’s Masonic service began with Hamiota Lodge No 4 in 1909 and continued in Strathclair Lodge No 106 after 1977.

Local Dealer Attends Farm Advisory Meeting in Calgary

Mr. Charlie Jahns of Oak River Equipment Ltd. returned to Oak River Manitoba after a three day White Farm Equipment Dealer Advisory Council meeting in Calgary Alberta. Jahns is among seven advisory council members elected by White Farm Dealers in Canada to meet with company officials. Topics covered manufacturing marketing parts and service engineering finance and advertising. The group saw ongoing research and development and a forecast of product introductions for 1979 and 1980. Shown with Jahns were Andrew Zaleski president White Farm Canada Robert Kidder president White Farm USA and Gordon Cleator vice president marketing. White Farm Equipment is a full line marketer of tractors implements tillage and harvesting equipment and a division of White Motor Sarattan of Canada Limited.

Manitoba grants $60,000 to Indian Brotherhood

The Manitoba government provides a special grant of 60 000 to the Manitoba Indian Brotherhood for its share of a one year tripartite study on delivery of services to Indians. Finance Minister Don Craik notes negotiations with the federal government began three years ago to define federal responsibility and provincial involvement within cost recovery. Of the grant, 45 000 funds the IBs participation through March 31 and 15 000 winds up the group’s portion of the year long project.
