Powers for Transportation Co-ordinator Proposed
Winnipeg report from the Advisory Committee cites a plan to appoint a Transportation Co ordinator with five powers. The panel endorses Prince Rupert terminal development and calls for immediate hopper car purchases to boost grain movements. The coordinator would coordinate with the Wheat Board and report to the Minister, with authority to order railcars, boost industry performance, manage labour issues, set long term goals, and allocate rail resources.

Manitoba Grants 30000 For Southeast Asia Boat People
Premier Sterling Lyon announced Cabinet approved a $30,000 grant from Manitoba to the Canadian Red Cross Manitoba Division to aid Southeast Asia boat people. The grant augments a mid July public appeal of $30,000. nationwide Red Cross appeal totals $500,000 with Manitoba share. Saskatchewan also contributed $25,000.

Newton Reunion Held at Valley View Centre
The annual Newton reunion gathered at Brandon's Valley View Community Centre hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Jim Schiedel. Attendees enjoyed games, races, a ball game, a supper on the Schiedel lawn, group photos, and social visiting despite a perfect weather day.

Brooks Family Reunion in Hamiota Brings Generations Together
Descendants of Wm. J. and Eliza J. Brooks from east and west gathered in Hamiota for a three day reunion July 27–29. Attendees from Halifax to Gibsons joined 142 members for a bonfire, pork barbecue, a history booklet presentation, church services, and farm tours. Highlights included oldest descendant Bob Brooks and youngest Jennifer, anniversaries, and a local museum display of a Singer sewing machine from 1895.
