Community Celebrates Johnnie Riddell at Appreciation Night

Johnnie Riddell honored at a two hour Community Hall program with remarks from Mayor Harold McLaren and greetings from Nels Kreager while Keith Dixon Wimp Shear down Ron Houck and Allan Mathison performed. Mary Corley and Jack Boyd contributed piano and accordion numbers as Therese Shamray danced a Highland number. An on duty Health Centre skit featured Mary Corley at her desk.

10 and Under Finish Season at Brandon Tournament

In Brandon last weekend Hamiota Atoms placed third in a five team round robin after beating Wawanesa 9-4 and Neepawa 4-1. Glenella and Brandon topped the 10 and unders 4-3 and 5-3 with Brandon scoring the final goal after Hamiota pulled goalie. Brandon then beat Glenella 2-1 in overtime to win the tournament. The Atoms closed the season with 22 wins and 12 losses.

Hamiota Weather Wins Trophies At Final Two Tournaments

The Weather competed in five tournaments at Elkhorn Virden Brandon Rivers and Hamiota capturing trophies in the last two. In four exhibition games Hamiota won three and lost one defeating Minnedosa Rivers and Oak River while losing to Brandon Little Wheat Kings.

Last Day For Studded Tires In Manitoba Province

Manitoba Highways lists April 30 as the final date for studded tire use. Hamiota’s Parkisemo League team went 10-4, finishing third. they won a semifinal 7-3 against Elkhorn, lost the deciding game 1-0, and then fell 5-4 to Sioux Valley in the final at Shoal Lake. Referees were volunteers Elgin and Wendell McConnell, Ron and Bob Meakin, Dallas Strachan, Trent Badger, Brian Thompson, and Don McDonald.

Hamiota Play School Association April Meeting Recap

The Hamiota Play School Association met on April 12 receiving its grant and planning a busy May. Two year olds and mothers are invited to visit on May 7. an open discussion for preschool issues is set for May 10 with educators and health workers. Annual meeting is May 20, directors elected, year ends May 31 with a weiner roast May 30.

Couple Honored On Tenth Anniversary at Twin Pines Motel

A supper at the Twin Pines Motel in Brandon honored Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Bilton of Hartney for their tenth anniversary on April 10. Attendees included Wayne Ramage and daughter from Cartwright, Doug Crampain and daughter from Brandon, Andy McBain and Dale, Rose McBain and Milt Mansell from Hamiota, Doreen McBain and Ron Lawrence from Brandon, with Vern Bilton and family of Melita absent due to roads. The event featured dancing after supper.
