Hamiota Curling Club holds annual meeting with 90 plus in attendance

Hamiota Curling Club’s annual meeting on Friday April 18 drew over 90 members at the banquet. President Ross Fraser led the session and paid tribute to four deceased members from the 1968 69 season. The joint Ham iota Memorial Rink Ltd met, officers were nominated, trophies awarded, and plans discussed to repair the rink roof and re shingle it. The ice was praised as the best yet and efforts to recruit younger curlers noted. Special thanks were given to organizers and the Anglican W A ladies for the banquet.

Birdtail River School Board Adopts By-Laws and Finances Hamiota Addition

Birdtail River School Division No. 38 Board met at Shoal Lake April 17 1969 with trustees present. They approved minutes, received and filed correspondence, and adopted By-Laws 3/69 and 4/69 related to construction finance for Hamiota Collegiate. A payment of 35378.70 to Hoffman Construction was authorized. Route and transportation adjustments were approved. The board adjourned to April 24 1969 after an April 7 1969 and prior school visit addendum.

Hamiota School Band 1969 Schedule Updates

The Hamiota school band reports activities through March and April. March 21 a performance for students, March 28 concert at Crendal with two buses transporting bands and majorettes, March 31 trip to Winter Fair Brandon, April 16 concert at Foxwarren, April 23 participation in Neeprwa Festival, and a planned Elementary School concert with posters to follow in the Hamiota Echo.

C.G.I.T. Club Activities Outline March April Plans

The report details a March 29 dance with non dancers options and drinks at ten, eleven pm close, thanks to readers and Mrs. Hawke for organization. A April 9 excursion with 21 girls to Brandon Vacational Centre includes lunch, psychology ward tour, an educational film, two nurse led tours, and thanks to volunteer drivers. April 26 bake sale and tea at Fraternal Hall 2 to 4 pm. Health Educator Stan Riechen speaks on drugs and abuse at United Church hall inviting former C.G.I.T. members.

Cardale W I Holds April Meeting in United Church Basement

The Cardale W I met April 16 at the United Church basement with thirteen members. President Mrs. G Cowan opened with the creed, motions on drugs discussed, reports read by Mrs. Jean Stewart and Mrs. J Dennison, and a drugs program led by Mrs. Stewart. Hostesses were Mrs. Lil Espey and Mrs. G Hyndman. The telephone committee for the month was also named.

Daylight saving time begins in Manitoba with clocks set forward one hour during the night of April 26 and 27. Under the Official Time Act, DST runs from the last Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October, with the change at 2 a.m. on April 27 when clocks become 3 a.m.

Decker U C W Meet Sets Floor Scrub Date

The April meeting of the Decker U C W held April 17 in the church drew 14 members and 3 visitors. The group planned painting the basement floor, set April 28 to scrub first, heard readings and prayers, and noted paint funds and nylons collection. Decker and Crandall will hold Peace and fellowship events.

Lady Curlers Close Season with Profits and Trophies

The Lady Curlers met April 18 in the rink lunch room for supper and their annual meeting with 69 members present. The season shows a total revenue of 2825.60 with disbursements of 743.85 and a profit of 2081.75. Funds of 1500.00 were donated to the Men’s Curling Club. Beth Jamison presented trophies to both the evening and afternoon curling squads.

McConnell 4-H Beef Club reports April 1969 meeting

The McConnell 4-H Beef Club held its sixth meeting on April 16, 1969 at 7:30 in the McConnell Community Centre. Twenty three members and three leaders attended. Delbert Brown showed slides from his Tennessee trip. the club voted a $50 donation and planned a concert for April 19 with Wendell Wight as chair. Hector Paterson won the $50 bill and returned it to the calf club. next meeting is a parents night on April 29.
