Manitoba Hunter Safety Instructors Praised With Certificates

Manitoba Minister Harry J. Enns awarded certificates of commendation to Sgt L D Land G W Forsyth and George Bonneyfoy for leading hunter safety courses. The program, started two years ago, serves Winnipeg Reston St Claude Erie areas with mandatory licensing for those under 19 beginning September 1.

Huskies Hold Wind Up Meeting In Hamiota

HAMIOTA The Hamiota Huskies Hockey Club held its spring meeting to review the season just completed and plan for next season. The team won 7 of 29 games with 3 wins in the last 8. Resignations were announced by Bob Brooks and Dick Prawdzik. Wayne Reid to act as manager. Awards were given to Elgin Knight Top Scorer 40 points Mel Smith Best Defenseman John Wright Lady Byng Bob Brooks MVP.

Manitoba Fishing booklet promotes angling tourism

Manitoba Tourism and Recreation Minister John Carroll distributed the new 24 page full color Manitoba Fishing booklet in the legislature. The guide promotes angling across northern and southern regions with photos, species guides, trip planning tips, and two feature articles by outdoors editors.

Ladies Auxiliary Holds Meeting in Oak River

Fifteen members attended the Ladies Legion Auxiliary meeting chaired by President Grace Bullock. Cards were sent to birthdays and sympathy, a past president received a pin, and gifts were given to J Weese as she moves to Ontario. Donations supported the Church Memorial Fund, 50 dollars for a scholarship, 5 dollars for 4-H at Oak River fair, and a 100 dollar Legion Men cheque.

4 H Beet Club Holds Meeting and Planning

The 4 H Beet Club met at H O McKinnon home on April 7 and planned a judging day at Lou White home on April 19. Speakers included Sharon Gray Maureen Hazlewood and Vicki Cumming. The next meeting is scheduled for May 6 at Arnold Gray home.

Oak River W II Holds April Meeting Plans May Concert

Oak River W II met April 3 with 18 members and 2 visitors. Plans were made for a May 2 Oak River concert and for Cancer Tag Day and Book Mart donations. Iris Prattey reported 65 sewn items 18 knitted items and 24 pounds of homemade soap sent to the Red Cross. Mr. Rod Bailey of West Man to speak in May. Karen Espey and Wendy McCallum demonstrated Press and Sew project followed by a hat making contest won by Grace Goulding and Ethel Bullock. Jean Henry and L. Paxton hosted.

Achievement Night Held at Oak River High School

Oak River hosts the March 28 Achievement Night in the High School Auditorium with 17 Home Economics Club members. Eighteen red ribbons honor clothing and handicraft projects as officers and members present reports, demonstrations, and awards.
