Plant Fire Devastates Champion Coated Paper Unit

A massive blaze destroyed the Champion Coated Paper Company’s Cink plant in a night disaster described as the largest in the city’s history. The inferno left hundreds idle, caused about 400000 dollars in losses with 300000 dollars insured, and damaged boiler rooms, drying depots, and the main building while salvageable sections and the west wing were spared. The cause was linked to a kerosene lamp at the drying department, with rapid spread through ventilation and allied equipment. Officials and workers watched the fire as emergency crews fought to save remaining structures and protect nearby facilities. Recovery and rebuilding were projected to take months, with plans to reopen the old paper plant along with a larger, safer operation in the future.
