Courageous Tennessee engineer perishes saving passengers
A Georgia and East Tennessee Railroad engineer David Halloway sacrificed his life to save a passenger train crossing a temporary bridge over Sweetwater Creek after floods subsided. He uncoupled the tender and ordered the fireman to safety, leaping into the river as the bridge collapsed. His noble act is remembered despite the tragedy.
