Chicago Fire Devastates Large City Area

Fire on Clark and Dearborn streets, stretching across twenty blocks, destroys homes along Michigan avenue and burns nearly all of Third and Fourth avenues. Loss estimated between four and six million dollars with about two fifths insured. Major structures affected include Jewish synagogue, Union Chapel, Adelphi Theater, St. James Hotel, Postoffice, First Baptist Church, Church of the Messiah, and Olivet Baptist Church. Casualties reported, city now under control with no further threat to north-side properties.
