Robbery on Detroit bound New York Chicago Express

Six or more masked men boarded the eastbound Michigan Central Express near Dewnhorn ten miles west of Detroit. They knocked out Fireman Doherty and held the crew at gunpoint while stealing a mail pouch as the train proceeded toward Detroit. They uncoupled the mail and mail car, warned the crew to stop, and escaped after dispersing with the mail and a third accomplice waiting. The incident delayed the train scheduled to arrive in Detroit about 9:35 p.m. No entry was made to the coaches or pollens. The gunmen threatened the engineer and performed the heist under the threat of nitro glycerine. The motive and total haul remain undisclosed as postal authorities conduct inquiries in Chicago and New York.
