New York reports that Russia plans to abolish banishment to Siberia by order of the government. The minister of justice is preparing a bill to end the punishment and reforms across European Russia.
Judge Warren Gard lauded East Hamilton as the new bridge over Mohawk Canal opens amid strong community support. Leaders praised Commissioners Kinch Davis Harmon and local residents for funding and pushing the project, while speakers urged continued civic effort and unity to connect East Hamilton with the city and county.
The dedication of the local bridge drew praise for the county commissioners and the Has Mamillog Improvement Association. Prosecutor C Barns praised the bridge and urged continued effort to bring streetcar service to the ward. Davis and Harmon declined to speak. Col Kineth offered a sobering closing, urging unity and collaboration.
In Zanesville Ohio on October 18 a large crowd heard Congressman James M. Cox praise General Brown and urge unity in the governorship race. Cox described split nominations between Elyria and Zanesville and invited the general to Columbus next January to witness a unified administration. He noted support from residents and said Brown would be asked to help when Cox moves to Columbus.

Columbus court steno Roscoe Walcutt, main witness in state bribery cases, is ill with typhoid fever and will miss two weeks at least. Detectives continue gathering evidence to corroborate the confession by Dr. George B. Nye of Pike County who admitted a scheme involving a campaign to remove a legislative ally.
