Serious Spill at Ue Buller County Fair Races

A disaster during the second heat of the 2:18 hot Wednesday at the fair grounds left several drivers injured. John B. Martin, riding Young, was thrown from the sulky. Charles Smith fell and suffered facial injuries. Lis, driving Maranevite Yell, lay unconscious with possible skull fracture. Arbaugh of Portland had a broken leg but survived. Driver Young escaped with minor bruises. Russell’s wagon wreck halted the race as horses scattered. The injured were taken to hospitals. Martin is badly hurt and may miss the rest of the event. Paving Delay Sparks Hamilton Council Clash

Hamilton council grilled Andrews Asphalt Paving Co over delaying street paving until fall and winter. Big Butler county fair drew crowds toward noon

Ideal weather boosted attendance at the Butler County fair with about 50 000 expected at the gates. Exhibits ranged from machinery to poultry with strong displays from the Ohio agricultural station. Wednesday’s racing was notable though attendance lagged, while Thursday’s crowds filled the grounds and the midway. Premiums were announced for farm products including red wheat rye and oats with prizes awarded to several farmers in Oxford Madisonville Hamilton Lebanon and other towns. Fearful Story of Woman Held in Middletown

In Middletown Ohio on October 3 1911 Thomas Cove 25 visited police claiming to eat his wife Lillian Cove later found living as Mrs Coffman in Middletown. Lillian born Miss Selumaker married Walter Branch in 1908 then Thomas Cove in 1911. She alleges abuse and prostitution coerced by Cove in Cincinnati River Road streets. Both were arrested with Cove charged with white slavery and Lillian with bigamy. Cincinnati authorities notified.
