May deliveries push wheat up 22 1/2 cents per bushel to 1.82 as buyers rush ahead of month end. Demand from sherifs delaying contracts narrows sales while large grain receipts counterbalance the bullish May wheat spike. About 2,400 carloads of grain arrived, including 430 of wheat.
Sir Francis Bell acting premier of New Zealand says no difficulties will block Armour and Co exporting meat for American use from freezing works in New Zealand. Government refuses licenses for Armour Australian exports, but demands strong guarantees against reshipment from America to London.

In Starke County circuit court Knox Indiana on May 31 1 year old Cecil Burkett was indicted for first degree murder for firing the rifle that killed Bennie Slavin a 7 year old at Ora Indiana on Thanksgiving Day The attorneys say he is the youngest Indiana defendant ever charged with this crime and warn of jury difficulties if the state seeks the death penalty despite the boy’s age.
Nine persons including five children three women and one man were trapped on the second and third floors of a East 40th street Woodlawn avenue apartment building after a fire on the first floor filled the structure with smoke. Fire ladders carried all nine to safety while firemen rescued two more unconscious occupants. Property damage reported as small.
Lieutenant B Stanley Ames, pilot of the Curtis Eagle, is exonerated after a three officer board found the May crash near Morgantown Maryland unavoidable due to a storm. The report, submitted to Major Scanlon at Bolling Field, credits the accident to weather while Ames was en route from Langley Field to Washington. Captain William Acker led the board with Lieutenants Paul T Wilkins and J M Wolfe.
Gloucester officials said captain Tom Bentham and a crew of 20 aboard the Esperanto likely survived a May 31 foundering near Novia Seertan, based on press reports. Russell Smith, Gor ton Pew Fisheries official, cautioned awaiting confirmation from the nearby Elsie ship near the Halifax race area.
Mary Althaus, 50, and Mrs. Sarah Grafs, 53, inmates at the Toledo state hospital, died by hanging. A suicide pact was implied by the report.
