Washington Work Slows as Congress Marks Time in Convention
Congress awaits the end of the national convention before resuming business. The Senate met at 11 30 am under the leaders’ agreement and recessed for three days. The House also recessed for three days under Underwood after the Baltimore convention. Dozens of major supply and appropriation bills await action, with current appropriations expiring June 30. An extension into the new fiscal year is likely until the big bills pass, as most Democratic leaders in the House will be away and Republicans push for partisan limits.
