Washington reports that among nearly 18 million deposits with national banks an average of 1,049 protested checks were received daily for three months, totaling about 141,570. The peak was in New York with 5,187 protested checks worth over 4 million dollars.
Washington July 17 Rear Admiral Knight of the Naval War College argues that battle cruisers offer strategic value though costly. He states dreadnoughts remain the fleet backbone, but battle cruisers may best meet future naval needs alongside heavy capital ships.
