Taxation of chain stores enjoined by Michigan court
In Detroit a Wayne County Circuit Court judge ruled the city of Hamtramck cannot enforce a graduated chain store tax. The Kroger Grocery and Baking Co suit argued the ordinance unconstitutionally classifies retailers by number of stores. Judge Theodora J. Richter found the ordinance unconstitutional as applied, blocking enforcement pending any permanent injunction.
