Trade Work With Foreign Nations Trade Work With Foreign Nations
Our correspondence with foreign nations began through Abs. Elizabeth Gilmore, instructor of Baghihav, and our American Junior Red Cross international school correspondence aided in placing work in foreign schools. Seventh and eighth graders, inspired by American Junior Red Cross Magazine articles, created portfolios with sports and club topics, stamps, coins, and pictures. The first portfolio shipped late 1928 to Hamilton Chapter Red Cross and Washington, D.C., though late, encouraged more. A new eighth grade portoflio followed with similar material plus stamps and coins, completed and sent November 1928. Portfolios reached Regio Emilia, Italy, and a later return came in fall, with school open. The Italian seminary girls produced high quality penmanship and content, with Mussolini stories and Italy geography, grape festival notes, and translations used by Italian Junior Red Cross. The third to fifth grades will begin after Christmas to reply to Regelo, Italy. The project inspires international relations and world peace through correspondence.
