Washington Aug 28 The postoffice appropriation bill becomes law with provisions for rural parcels post and general parcels post rate changes. Rural parcels up to twelve pounds carried by rural carriers at 6 cents for the first pound and 1 cent for each additional pound, total 35 cents for 11 pounds. Rates by zones set. first zone 6 cents plus additional cents per pound, eight zones listed with weights and charges, up to 11 pounds. Rural carriers’ pay increased. postmaster general authorized to adjust rates and wages. a six-member congressional commission to study and report modifications. County officials must submit appropriation requests by Sept 1.
At a special board of education session on Tuesday evening Ja H Butterfield was elected high school principal to fill the vacancy caused by Margery Gordon's resignation. Rhinehe Patten and Anna Todd were named teachers in grade schools. Isaac Whalen was elected janitor for the Washington building at 750 a year and Andrew Dasnev for the Ven Buren school at 450 a year. A B Andrews was chosen teachers examiner for three years at 50 a year. Miss Susie Huston resigned as a usher and Miss Margaret McCain was granted leave until holidays. Robert Neill declined the janitor post at Washington. The board approved payrolls totaling 1591.46 for teachers, 898 for janitors and officers, 167.50 for special janitor work, and 1528 to the teachers pension fund.
The will of Susan Imlay admitted to probate on Wednesday leaves her entire real and personal estate to her son Charles Imlay, dated November 4, 1909, witnessed by Horace Shane and Helen Harvig, with Charles Imlay named executor. William Decker, husband of Anna Decker, dies at 1027 Considine Avenue Cincinnati. funeral held Wednesday with requiem high mass at Holy Family. Horses stabled and fed at Dave Smith's barn opposite the service pier.
Republican Campaign Manager Jarry M. Daugherty issued a statement arguing it is unlawful for Republican candidates to appear as Progressive candidates on the November ballot. He said the only path for a Progressive could be by petition, but noted that route is not available to the candidate whose nomination has been certified.
City Attorney Neilan says an ordinance to authorize a city hall bond issue will be prepared if requested, with council leaders expecting a formal request before next Wednesday. The proposal, widely reported, faces voter decision on a new city hall at the upcoming meeting.
David W Brant formerly of Hamilton died suddenly at his Los Angeles home from throat hemorrhage induced by whooping cough. Born in Hamilton, he was the youngest son of David W and Rebecca Brant, brother to Byran J Otto F Brant and Mrs Wilson L Blair. He lived most of his life in Hamilton before moving to Los Angeles to work with Otto Brant in the Guarantiesville and Trust Company. He married in Los Angeles. a widow and two children survive. Burial occurred this afternoon in Los Angeles.
