Cincinnati police seized over one hundred slot machines in a large coordinated raid across Hartwell Indian Hill and Oakley. Thirty constables carried out the operation with secrecy and authorities say several citizens financed the effort to stamp out illicit gambling on the outskirts of the city.
A sensational suit was filed in New York on Saturday by Attorney Charles W. Baker for the Victor Safe and Lock company. The action accuses the American Banker publishers of breach of contract and conspiracy with Mosler Safe and Manganese Safe to damage the Victor company.
Authorities in Franklin Ohio search for identity of a man killed on the Big Four railroad last Tuesday. The 25 year old was 5 feet 9 inches, about 170 pounds, well dressed with a tattooed star on his left arm and laundry marked A D G. Anglesby sons undertakers hold the body hoping for identification.
Engineer Dillon recommended accepting cement from Struthers Cement Co for North B street paving and the board approved. The Car Service Association and Queen City Coal Co submitted demurrage bills of 166 and 198 dollars, respectively, which were deducted and will be paid later. Residents on C and Millikin streets petitioned for an arc lamp to be installed after the new plant is completed.
New York reports that Oscar S. Strauss secretary of commerce and labor declares the government will not intervene in the telegraphers strike. He spoke after Percy Thomas and Daniel L. Russell conferred with President Roosevelt at Oyster Bay who would act only if anti trust violations or improper telegram mailing are proven.
Petitions were filed with Harry J. Lone secretary of the Democratic City Central Committee listing Henry B. Grevy treasurer Henry A. Grimmer auditor William H. Allen mayor and board of public service nominees Chris Benninghofen Chris Pabst and Joseph Sloneker.
The service board opened bids for sanitary and storm sewers and paving along South D Street from Crescent Avenue. Bid lists include M Sullivan Son Cincinnati J F E Conley Dayton Andrews Asphalt Hamilton Barber Asphalt Philadelphia for paving and J P Meehan J H Trunek Garver Brothers for sewers. The board sent all bids to the engineer and rejected a civil claim by J H Trunek for a mislaid sewer pipe valued at 10.06, advising police involvement.
The New York bank statement issued on September 21 reports rises across legal reserves loans specie and deposits. Legal reserve up 1,456,400 with an additional 1,599,550 after U S. reserves. Loans gain 8,606,800. Specie up 3,486,600. Deposits increase 12,171,200. Circulation up 200.
The Supreme Senate Knights of the Ancient Essenic Order will convene in Cincinnati on Tuesday October 8.
Police seek Edward Santerfield William Lee and Alex Edwards all colored of Lockland for allegedly assaulting Ben Fr Macon and Fred Herman at Curlew right carriage works Central avenue. Macon signed warrants. Victims then say the men attacked Herman at James Collins boarding house 1005 South Second street. Dr. Cook moved Herman to Mercy hospital but he left possibly with a fractured skull.
Norfolk VA September 21 May or J Barry Mahool of Baltimore was unanimously elected president of the League of American Municipalities.
State Dairy and Food Commissioner R W Dunlap launches a statewide movement against saloon drug stores selling apparent temperance drinks that are actual intoxicants. Inspectors identify illicit traffic mainly in dry areas with a $1000 liquor tax in wet regions and tax collection penalties in dry zones. The list includes Duffy's Malt Whiskey and many tonics and beers, naming GEO T Blake and other officials.
The county commissioners approved several contracts on Saturday including Frank Kineh to lay a cement sidewalk by the courthouse and install two 25 foot five inch tile pipes at 125.10 dollars, George Emmons to repair the Coulter farm arch culvert at 47.95 dollars, and Joseph Guillaume to fix the Sehradin farm bridge abutment and repaint walls for 204 dollars. Bids will be sought for a concrete bridge at the Compton farm Lemon township along the Cincinnati and Dayton pike at an estimated 580 dollars.
Val Johnson motorman on the traction line was fined 50 and costs for exceeding the speed ordinance. He posted bail with Will Andesh and D. C. Clark as sureties. He proposed to have one of the five other passenger cars exceeding the limit tried in exchange for waiving the trial of his crew. The trial of that car crew is set for Monday.
A man was arrested last night while attempting to dispose of carpenter tools at Keith's place for whiskey. He possessed more tools and is suspected of knowing about tools recently stolen from new houses.
Mrs Ida Stadg, recently divorced from Tony Stang, wed George Watkins this morning at police headquarters as prescribed by Mayor Thomas.
Ex officer Joseph McMahon brings sensational charges against Chief Symmes to a public hearing in the police court Monday afternoon. McMahon has attorney H. H. Haines. the chief is represented by Waiter Harlan. The hearing may last one or two days.
Calvin Cole a lineman for the focal electric light company suffered a serious fall Thursday afternoon from a 30 foot pole when his belt broke. He struck a horse on the back and then fell to the ground fracturing his skull dislocating a shoulder and injuring his hip. He is a married man with one child.
The remains of George Heiser who died suddenly in Chicago will arrive Saturday evening at 7 o'clock and be taken to his father John Heiser Sr.'s home at Seventh Street and Campbell Avenue. The funeral will be held Monday at 10 o'clock at the Heiser home with interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
President Roosevelt plans a 17 day camping trip in northeastern Louisiana starting October 27 after leaving Oyster Bay. He will depart Washington for a western southern speaking tour, stop in Memphis, Vicksburg, and Hermitage, with hosts Civil Service Commissioner John A. McElhenny of New Iberia and John M. Parker of New Orleans.

Cleveland Ohio September 21 Mayor Tom L. Johnson was nominated by acclamation at the city democratic convention.
Richmond Indiana Evening Item reports an affidavit by Mrs. Lulu Clark tying Turner Igo of Farmers Rowan Kentucky to the Goebel murder case. The affidavit, sworn April 11 1907 in Indianapolis, mentions John Sanford of Covington Kentucky and Gertrude King as participants on the day of the shooting at the Kentucky state house steps. Sanford is described as the son of a man Goebel killed in Covington.
Baxes for the Butler county fair were sold in the fair board office this afternoon. Robert Billingslea acted as auctioneer as boxes sold quickly in under thirty minutes. Names and prices include George Sohngen 34 35 at 15 dollars, Edward Creighton 12 13 at 16 dollars, Dr C W Hodges 9 at 15 dollars, and others. Chair seats to be sold Monday at Ralph Beeler's drug store at 4 PM.
