Special to the Democrat Sun reports President Roosevelt delivered his annual message to Congress at noon. The joint committee notified the White House to begin business, and the president communicated in writing. Evidence of an early return to normal for foreign rail lines appears as workers who were laid off or transferred are recalled. George N. Williams of the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul orders the relaid-off men back to duty, with St Paul leading the revival and other lines expected to follow soon. William Miller fire chief of Franklin goes on trial for murder in the common pleas court before Judge Clark. Indicted for first degree murder in the September shooting of Joe Littler, Miller's wife was Littler's affinity. Expert testimony may prove insanity. Miller is defended by Langdon and Gaynor. The case is expected to draw strong interest.
Dr A D Spence of South Lebanon indicted for firing his own home last September was arraigned and pled guilty in Lebanon Ohio. Judge Clark sentenced him to two years in the state penitentiary. He endured turmoil in jail until his wife visited, after which he faced the sentence with a smile.
Long police inquiry centers on Charles W. Gangwolf as wife Lillie Gangwolf cut her throat with Latzenberg razor in room No 3. Witnesses dispute his involvement though blood traces and timing raise questions. Coroner hearing set for next Thursday to determine if homicide or suicide by Mrs Gangwolf amid jealousy and past life rumors.
The jury acquitted Mrs. Annie M. Bradley of murdering former U S Senator Arthur Brown at a Utah hotel on December 8. The verdict was read at 10 08 am amid applause. Bradley was discharged and plans to join her sister in Goldfield Nevada.
H N Newell was named receiver and assumed control of the Friend Paper company mills in Carrollton. On Monday the plant resumed full operation and about 1,000 workers, many from West Carrollton and nearby towns, returned to their jobs after a weeks long suspension. Newell will run the mills for the company and oversee ongoing operations.
The death sentence handed to Karl Ha a former George Washington University professor in Washington D C has been commuted to life imprisonment for the murder of his mother in law Fran Molitor on November 5 1906 in Karlsruhe authorities report.
The Superior Court yesterday denied the petition of F Ang Hartje of Pittsburg for a more argument in his divorce suit against his wife Mary Hartje Seat Hartje.
