Soft Peace For Japan In San Francisco Treaty

The author argues the San Francisco Peace Treaty is a soft settlement, not what any nation wanted. It spared Japan harsh punishment to allow rehabilitation, while warning that if victory proves costly, it preserves self interest and peace reliance. Britain’s rationing and postwar strains are noted as signs of uneven benefits. The piece emphasizes avoiding a complacent victory and urges broader acceptance that war does not pay.
