Drummond Urges Yes Vote on Communist Measures

Hon. D. H. Drummond M.H.R. told the New England c.P. electorate council at Walcha that the Government seeks full Parliament power to deal with Communists and to endorse the Communist Dissolution Bill. He warned of sectarian tactics, urged work for a Yes vote, and compared Australia’s defence needs with Britain and the U.S.A. including national service and re-armament efforts.

Women's Hockey Matches Stood Over as Inverell Fails to Travel

Last weekend Inverell could not travel to Guyra for women's hockey. Glen Innes could not field a team for Sunday, so the match is postponed. Members are reminded of Friday's dance and asked to bring cake for supper with Pat before 5 p.m.

Stall Event Highlights Mrs Bowen and Mr Bowen Wins

A street stall run last Friday and Saturday drew crowds and featured competitions won by Mrs. J Bowen for handkerchiefs and Mr J Bowen for a purse and contents. prizes included a cup saucer and plates.

Guyra District Cricket Association reform discussed

At the Guyra District Cricket Association annual meeting in the Shire on Saturday night it was decided to reform and start the competition on October 13. Entries close September 22. President E M Mulligan noted a poor season with little interest and six teams entering but not all fulfilling obligations amid five wet Saturdays.
