Funeral services for Maynard Ellis Millhollin 68 were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Guthrie Center United Methodist Church with Rev Milton Kinney officiating. He died Saturday morning at Guthrie county hospital after a long illness. Interment was at Bear Grove. New $5 Food Stamp Book Rolls Out Countywide

The Department of Agriculture announced a maroon five dollar food coupon to join the existing 50 cent and two dollar stamps. A family of four now receives one hundred six dollars in monthly coupons. The new books total fifty dollars and replace the current twenty dollar books of two dollar stamps. Grocers must not accept loose coupons from the books but may take loose fifty cent stamps. The change aims to speed handling by stores, customers, and banks.

A Guth County Hospital administrator reports 1106 patients admitted in 1970 across departments. Nursing is largest, with surgical, obstetrical, and emergency units detailing staff, on call roles, and patient care scope including education and total welfare. Eighty nine surgeries and 456 ER treatments mark the year, with about 60 staff employed.

Bale of Hay Breaks Through Windshield in Collision

A bale of hay from a pickup drove through the windshield of a northbound car driven by Ernest Hance of Jefferson on Wednesday afternoon near Sticker Casey. Deputy Sheriff Dick Marshall said the bale passed to the back seat as a second vehicle driven by a driver unnamed in the report avoided injury. Charges are pending on the mishap.
