Jamie Franklin Buttler is born at Guthrie County Hospital at 7 22 p m weighing 7 pounds 10 44 ounces. He joins siblings a 6 year old brother and 4 year old sister. Parents receive gifts from local merchants supporting the first baby contest including a baby blanket from Benton Hughes, a miniature pin from Logsdon Ford and meals, goods, and gift certificates from multiple Guthrie Center sponsors.

REC Meeting Postponed To Thursday Morning

Guthrie County Rural Electric Cooperative manager Kenneth Saltsgaver announced the 31st annual REC meeting is moved from Monday to Thursday morning with registration at 11 30 a.m. The cooperative serves Guthrie Audubon and Dallas counties with about 2900 members. A full house of about 600 attendees was expected, while two years ago bad roads cut attendance to 300.

Accidents In Holiday Week On Guthrie County Roads

A rash of holiday accidents reported no injuries by the Guthrie County Sheriff. At 5 p.m. Thursday December 31st a car driven by Dennis Lehman home on leave from the service skidded on ice while turning and rolled into a ditch seven miles north and one half mile east of Adair. The 1970 auto sustained about $2,000 in damage and no charges were filed.

Pantz to Lead Cypress Cable TV Unit After Consolidation

Raynor a Pantz of UK reg serves Guthrie Center as the local system changes its name to Cypress Cable TV. This comes after the consolidation of Harriscope Transmission Inc into Cypress Communications Corporation. Pantz will remain regional manager of Cypress Cable TV based in Los Angeles, one of the nation’s largest cable TV operators.

Winter storm leaves Guthrie County in deep snow

The county endured a severe winter storm starting Saturday evening with a 30 percent chance of more snow. By Sunday morning about five inches had fallen and drifts reached up to ten feet. travel halted, mail suspended, and utilities reported service intact in many areas. Repairs and outages affected Perry and Dallas County regions as crews restored power, while old timers recalled historic storms. Cold conditions continued into the week with forecasts of further frigid days.
