Car totalled on Highway 25. no serious injuries

A one car accident Thursday morning on Highway 25 six miles from Guthrie Center involved a late model Ford Escaped and serious injury was avoided. Richard S Blake, 23, of 3328 Douglas Des Moines Blake, traveling north, lost control as the road slipperiness increased and the car overturned into the west ditch. Blake was taken to the Guthrie County Hospital for observation.

Bad Weather Closes Roads Across Southern State

Sunday evening trouble formed as holiday travelers left early. Monday morning reports show worsening road conditions in the southern region due to snow and freezing drizzle with forecasts predicting an end to the hazardous weather.

Adair Conservation Club elected Adaire Onaille Sheede as president at its annual meeting. Harold Fretton was chosen as secretary treasurer and Neil Lunds along with Jack Sping Yer Las McClain Rev John Daves and Ror Wu were named directors. The meeting included a chorus performance of The Messiah.

Guthrie Center Woman Named Easter Seal Chairman

Mrs Lewis Halterman of Guthrie Center named Guthrie Countys Chairman for the 1972 Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults of Iowa. The society president Richard W Carex of Des Moines announced the Easter Seal Society is the largest voluntary organization serving hand capped children and adults with 14 service areas nationwide. It aids victims of disabling illnesses and physical handicaps such as muscular dystrophy cerebral palsy and polio.

Prisoners to move to Dallas County jail

Greene county inmates will be housed in Dallas County at Adel rather than Guthrie Center starting January 1. Guthrie County had charged a flat 300 plus 5 per day per prisoner. Dallas County will charge 3 dollars per day. Sheriff Lester Petersen said the move should save on transportation costs despite added travel to Adel.

Largest Ten Year Mortgage Debentures Filed at Diamond Head Lake

Recorders Office in the county processed a 107850 mortgage debenture filing for Diamond Head Lake, described as the biggest recording fee collection in a decade. Recorder Ken Christensen noted about 249 instruments and an involvement of around 200 individuals, with an estimated 400 acres at Diamond Head and Happy Acres, 80 percent of which are underwater, and roughly 1800 lots plotted.

Koenig Installed As Pastor In Adair

Rex Daniel Koenig was installed as pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair during a December 19 ceremony. He earned a BA from Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne in 1966, then BD from Concordia Seminary St Louis in 1970 after an internship in Tucson. He later pursued postgraduate study at Richmond VA and served as assistant pastor in Fort Myers Florida.

License Plate Sales Climb Ahead of Last Year

December sales show auto license plates totaling 1960 with 385 truck plates sold. The year 1971 figures reach 6010 car plates and 2333 truck plates, while last year on December 22 recorded 468 truck plates and lower car totals.

Cowden resigns as Guthne County GOP chair and finance head

Harry Cowden announced his resignation as Guthne County Republican central committee chairman and party Finance Chairman at a committee meeting. Fred Van Duzer Menlo was elected to succeed him. Patrol Reports Sectioned Weather and Road Conditions

The Iowa Highway Patrol divides the state into five sections with a sixty mile radius per city for independent weather and road condition reports. Patrol Chief Colonel Howard S.
