The Christmas adopt a family program adds 18 more households to the initial 35 listed. 32 have already been adopted. Contact the welfare office to select a family to sponsor. Donations of food and small gifts are welcomed to help families endure the season and the coming year.
ADAIR Christmas decorations appear in several business windows. Rev Jom Dass and Miss Wee Schaper host a fair with gas tins and sermons. STUART Merchants reopen Tuesday with limited hours. LINDEN residents decorate homes for Christmas with lights and decora tions. BAGLEY Shriber Construction advances project at the no fie hall. PANORA Sante Chaus distributes candies to kids. VALE Terry Jaschke’s son stars at the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago. Corpians Girls win, finish 35 collegiate teams.
Delbert Shelley, 17, of Mentoom, was injured Wednesday evening when a tractor toppled into a ditch. He was pinned briefly under the machine before being freed and taken to Greenfield Hospital. Delbert’s parents, Mr and Mrs Paul Shelley, and his brother Don, 18, were notified. He is reported in good condition.
Forty eight citizens were selected as petit jurors for the first quarter. Appointments listed include Anne Arganbaght Guthrie Center James Arganbagh Guthrie Center Barbara Bascom Panora Deri S Bench Stuart Ann Brown Bayard Helen Burchfield Panora and many others across Guthrie Center Panora Jamaica Stuart Bagley and Casey districts.
Services were held Saturday at the Methodist Church in Casey for Nellie A Sparling who died Thursday morning at Guthrie Counts Hospital. Officiating was Rex Wayne Hoehns. interment at Canby Cemetery. Survived by one son Harm of Gironfield, two daughters Mrs Lar ry tAhee of Guihte Center, Mrs Halhe Kingers of rural dsr, eight grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
RoC Williams of the United States Immigrant and Naturalization Service warns that January is set for alien address reporting. Aliens must report addresses at all post offices and INS offices during January. Willful failure to comply may lead to serious consequences.
The 1970-71 school year report by Arthur Roberts shows a 7 percent rise in school bus accidents to 456 from 417, with 113 injuries including 194 pupils and 11 drivers, no fatalities for the first time in five years. Major causes include driver inattention and backing the bus, ages of drivers range from teens to 65, and total property damage about $191,357.
Farm Bureau representatives assured Bayard the needed funds are available for Phase I of the sewer project with 80 percent grant money from state and federal sources and 20 percent local bonds. Phase II covers the collection system and plans will be prepared for bids, with construction expected by year end 1972.
An ordinance passed at the last regular meeting redefines Guthrie Center voting wards. The line shifts from State Street to Grand Street from First Street to Highway 44. Areas north of Grand become ward one and areas south become ward two.
Bayard, Iowa. Carroll County sheriff reports 54 year old Jack Hull of a rural Coon Rapids farm was shot in the cheek by a 12 gauge shotgun as he stood in his driveway. Richard D Johnson, 24, of Bayard faces assault with intent to murder and contributing to the delinquency of a minor bond set at 10 thousand and 500 dollars respectively. A 14 year old Coon Rapids youth is held for delinquency investigation. The case remains under investigation.
Iowa Electric, also called Iowa Electric and Power Company, began collecting the announced electric rate increase effective November 24, 1971. The change is subject to refund after a Commerce Commission hearing to be scheduled later. For the average residential user, the rise is about 17 cents per 100 kilowatt hours annually, totaling roughly $10.39 more per year. Duane Arnold, chairman and president, notes the cost will approach 1965 levels.
Panora youths John Ewing age 15 and David Barker age 17 were picked up Thursday by the Sheriff and turned over to juvenile authorities. They are suspected of multiple house prowls in the Lake Panorama area with reports listing a color TV rugs and several small appliances missing.
The high school vocal and instrumental departments join for a Christmas program on December 21 at 7 30 in the high school gym. The concert features choir and band selections centered on the nativity, with about an hour of music and light Christmas pieces.
